Liminal Traces

Volume One

An ongoing personal collection of found photographs and video recovered from used camera memory cards. Liminal Traces is an entirely visual experience in book form that explores the captivating realm of liminality. Picture yourself in a waiting room, a hallway, or any place where you exist momentarily, suspended between two destinations. This collection of photographs serves as a tangible manifestation of that liminality.

Volume One of Liminal Traces comprises seven sections, each containing a distinct theme unveiling a different facet of liminality through carefully curated diptychs and subject matter ranging from portraits, landscapes, travel and partially corrupted media.

The Process

I bought 19 used memory cards online in January 2023; 10 of which contained usable imagery captured between 2004–2014. Since many of the cards had been formatted I used file recovery software to salvage over 5,000 images and videos. Once sorted into categories I created a layout that includes 84 photographs and video screenshots divided into 7 distinct sections.
